New Health-Focused Patent for AirPods Unveiled
Evidence has emerged indicating that Apple may use previously unreleased AirPods models to measure heart rate in the upcoming iOS 18 operating system. Rumors suggest that this anticipated new feature could arrive in the AirPods Pro 3 and Powerbeats Pro next year.
Now, a new patent obtained by the company shows that AirPods devices may not only detect heartbeats but also identify the presence of potential cardiovascular diseases. The new patent, shared on the Patently Apple website, emphasizes that microphones directed into the ear canal could be utilized to identify heart diseases.
The signal emitted by the microphone, processed by a filter, will be analyzed by an algorithm. This will allow for the identification of changes that may indicate possible heart pathologies by comparing signals captured during different heart activities.
Initially, it could detect bradycardia (abnormally low heart rate) and tachycardia (abnormally high heart rate). However, the patent also indicates that more complex detections could be possible.
